Volunteer befrienders – Welcome to the UK Friendship Group

Every month we offer a friendship group for people who are new to the UK. Originally this was specifically for Ukrainian families but in consultation with those attending and the local charity “Welcome to the UK” we have agreed to open it up to all nationalities. The purpose of the group is to offer a space where people can come together to make new friends, learn more about the area in which they now live, practice their spoken English in a safe and supportive environment and share a meal cooked for them at Garon Park.

We are looking for a small group of volunteers to attend the group each week to meet the families, talk to them, and share life experiences and local information. Everyone mucks in to serve and clear up after the meal, but it is important for us to have some friendly and supportive English speakers and local residents who can share their wisdom and friendship with these individuals and families.
